THURSDAY 4TH MARCH 2021

Our Ancient Egyptian head is based upon a painting of Queen Nefertari from her tomb in the Valley of the Queens. Queen Nefertari is usually shown wearing the Royal Vulture Crown of the goddess Nekhbet, the protector of Upper Egypt. Nefertari was the favourite wife of the greatest of all the pharaohs, Rameses II, and she bore him at least six children. She probably died after his 30th year on the throne, about 12 centuries before the birth of Christ.

• The artistic process used to create the time-worn effect of this portrait is a mixed media technique called Paper Batik.

• In this lesson we will guide you through this technique from the initial drawing to the completed portrait explaining each step of the process as we go.

MONDAY 1ST MARCH 2021 - THIS MAY WELL GO OVER TWO DAYS IN CLASS SO COULD ALSO BE DONE OVER TWO DAYS AT HOME.

How do Christians use art in worship and in remmembering Jesus? What do you admire about some works of art?

Activity 1 - look through the religious art powerpoint from below and link with the websites from further down the page. In general -What do you like/dislike about the art? What messages are the pictures getting across?  Who do they portray? In what what light do they portray the person? 

Using the handout complete the six boxes by adding what you think the message is from the artist in that particular piece of artwork. 

Acitivty 2 - Draw your own piece of artwork based on your beliefs - this can be linked to Christianity or your own beliefs entirely. Explain the choices in your piece of work. So, label as you see fit.

Activity 3 - look at the islamic art powerpoint and the calligraphy websites from below. Create your own piece of artwork based on geometric patterns and /or calligraphy in art.
