HF’s Netball team played brilliantly well today in the annual South Derbyshire school’s tournament. 13 teams participated over three leagues. Sadly drawing the short straw, HF’s were in the league with 5 teams meaning they had to play 4 games, the other 2 leagues had 4 teams each meaning only 3 games each, our girls were hot and exhausted in the sunshine. We won our league convincingly, winning all 4 games - v Springfield 10-0, v Melbourne B 12-0, v Etwall A 6-1 and v Linton 15-0, a great achievement. We qualified for the semi final v Melbourne, at full time 2-2, this meant Golden Goal!! Sadly Melbourne won the toss for first centre pass which gave them the advantage of attacking first, their shot on goal went in straight through the net. Heartbreaking!... Regrouping, we then had to play Etwall A for 3rd/4th play off, the girls were determined not to be 4th and took the win 7-0. A mixture of emotions but they deserved to be in the top 3, well done to the girls for their determination today dealing with frustration and disappointment at the end. How lovely after the final that all adults, organisers and Umpires involved commented on the quality of netball that the HF’s girls had played and how their netball had been the best throughout the tournament. Extremely proud of the girls efforts again today. Thank you to our group of cheerleaders as usual. Looking ahead now to the 7 a-side competition in the summer, watch this space....
